Pasig City’s City Engineering Department has begun its site inspection at Floodway Westbank Road last August 16, 2022, which is one of the first steps to provide around 20 households their own permit to have their dedicated electric meter.
According to Lerma San Juan, president of Mamamayan Ang Layunin Ay Pagkakaisa Neighborhood Association (MALAYAPA), many of those living in Floodway, Pasig are on a submeter or have been dangerously connecting their home’s electricity to neighbor’s whose home have their electric meter.
And because it’s not easy for illegal settlers to apply to Meralco for a permit on their own, the Pasig LGU taking action was a welcome move for the community.
With each household having its own electric meter, they can now use electricity more safely with less consumption.
UPWARD UP is spearheaded by academics from the Ateneo de Manila University, De la Salle University, and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven for the Alliance of People’s Organizations along the Manggahan Floodways. (english version)
